RE: Lost in the Desert

Following behind Kyzer, Jehuty was next to speak with the bartender.  He tried to keep his relationship with the other two conspicuous since the townfolk already knew at least one of them.

"When does the spaceport open?" He asked.

"Oh Dorothy usually unlocks around seven or eight," The bartender replied, "Why?  That your ship that landed earlier?"

"Could be.  Thanks." was Jehuty's response.

The bartender dismissed the rebuttal with a shrug and returned to cleaning his glass.  Jehuty moved away from the bar and surveyed the room.

Polyplast tables and chairs were scattered about the well-used dance floor, a few recklessly overturned or leaned against each other.  As with most bars, the lighting was low and smoke roiled near the ceiling ominously.  Ambient noise in the small space was dominated by conversation; patrons of all races and trades occupied the tables and bar stools and stood around the walls.  They were at varying levels of drunkenness and each crowd subconsciously fought the others for decibel supremacy.  A tall humanoid woman sat alone in a corner, facing the exit.  Noone approached her and it was obvious why: she wore at least six pistols plainly visible and had the scars to prove they weren't for show.  A pair of large bulbous gray aliens exchanged methodically slow blows while bouncers scurried to and fro beneath them, helpless to impede the behemoths.  The aliens did almost no damage to their surroundings and the bar's other denizens were surprisingly adept at keeping their distance.

A short gray-bearded man wearing a dark blue leather cape and matching goggles entered the bar, sliding in sideways in an unnervingly graceful motion.  Was this Kyzer's tail?

RE: Lost in the Desert

Nomad recognized the man entering the bar as their pursuer, and immediately stepped forward, looping his arms under the stranger's armpits and lifting, immobilizing him, then pushing him toward the wooden pillar supporting the ceiling.

"Why are you following us?" he growled in the man's ear.
"What the heck, man? I wasn't following anybody." the man replied, too calm and smooth for Nomad to believe. "I came in here for a drink. I'm a regular, ask anybody here." he added.

Nomad pulled him away from the pillar and released him. He began to turn around to face Nomad, but Nomad forced him to stay where he was, then patted him down quickly. Nomad pulled an old blaster pistol from the man's hip holster, checked for a safety switch, and shoved the gun through his belt. The man then turned around to face him.

"Now you're stealing my piece? I could get killed without that." the man whined, faking weakness.

Nomad's piercing stare and cloth still hiding his face set the man on edge. Nomad pointed at the bar, implying to walk toward it. The man shrugged, turned, and walked toward the bar, Nomad following close behind.

He noticed that nobody in the bar seemed to pay any mind to this bit of an altercation right by the door. Must be a common sight.

As they stepped up to the bar, Nomad got Kyzer's attention.

"Know this guy?" Nomad asked.

RE: Lost in the Desert

He began to dial a number but was interrupted by Nomad. Kyzer pressed the end button and looked at the man. He took a step loser and eyed him a bit closer and suddenly spoke.

"Yeah! I know him he's a low-time bounty hunter, your the one that captured Cliff...bloody heck..." he debated wether or not to punch him.

The man spit back "I have no idea what your talking about..."

Without hesitation Kyzer nailed him a good one, square in the jaw. The man fell down and held his chin. Kyzer spoke while dialing a number "You can do whatever you want with him, I don't care..."
The little scuffle obliviously attreacted some attention, but Kyzer ignored it instead focusing on his video call. Shaun answered the phone with a surprised look.

"Well look who it is! Kyzer mah main man!"

"Hey Shaun...I'll be back in the morning..."

"Whoa whoa whoa, your dead remember buddy? I'm in charge now...so make like a good little muckhopper and go get killed..."

"What!? This is treason!"

"No, it can't be treason if your dead...now listen, I don't want any trouble, so why don't you just leave Menos or something? I'm in charge now and if you come close to this settlement I will personally kill you."

"Sonuva..." he was cut short as not only did Shaun hang up, but the bounty hunter managed to come up from behind him and introduce a choke hold.

(Hope this isen't too much...)

RE: Lost in the Desert

Jehuty had kept the stalker's attention off of Nomad till he had passed him in the doorway.  He then looked on as Nomad easily overpowered the smaller man and then allowed him and Kyzer to interrogate him, shifting his own attention to the rest of the room.  He kept watch on the other bar-goers to make sure they didn't react to the events now taking place but to his surprise, not only did they not lift a finger or bat an eye but they paid absolutely no notice whatsoever as though it were an everyday occurrence.  These denizens must have been so used to taking care of their own problems with citizen justice that they were desensitized to this sort of violence.  Jehuty thought that nothing probably ever got by this town.
Then he remembered a contract he'd picked up while he had still been in deep space with Wasp's long range comm gear running while the solar array charged the drive for another jump; a man named Jakob Centry had somehow escaped with someone's family heirloom and was still at large on this planet.  Jehuty moved back toward the bar to have another conversation with the bartender as Kyzer's short call went through.

The bounty hunter took this moment of distraction to slam an elbow into Nomad's gut, momentarily immobilizing his captor, and throw himself onto Kyzer to wrap both arms around his neck.  Luckily for the trio, the old man had apparently thought they were just a duo and counted on the no-interference policy of the locals.  Jehuty put a slight twist in his last stride toward the bar and brought the butt of his rifle down on the back of the man's head with considerable force.

RE: Lost in the Desert

Nomad had taken the blow pretty hard and took a step back to lean against the bar for a moment. He looked up just in time to see the bounty hunter drop to the floor like a limp sack of rocks under Jehuty's blow.

Nomad checked again to make sure nobody came to the bounty hunter's aid. As he suspected, there was still nobody paying them attention. He allowed himself to rub the spot where he was elbowed while managing to straighten up and mask his pain. The blow had come at an angle and not only hit him in the fleshy part of the belly, but he had caught a rib too. Nomad would give it a few more minutes before deciding whether it was cracked or not.

The bartender snapped his fingers at someone close to the door who almost looked like a bouncer, but obviously wasn't doing his job very well. The would-be bouncer walked over, heaved the bounty hunter over his shoulder, and carried him out the door. Considering the bouncer came back inside within a matter of seconds, Nomad could only assume that he had just tossed the unconscious and concussed man into the street.

Nomad took a seat at the bar, sitting sideways to keep an eye behind him.

Kyzer held his neck as the bount fell to the ground. "Thanks..." he sputtered as air reentered his lungs. He rubbed his eyebrows and looked around. His right hand man had just betrayed him. He sat down and looked at Jehuty.

"Yeah, I don't know if we'll be able to get to that mining equipment...seems there has been a mutinity amongst my crew..."

He bit his lip and slammed his hand against the bar. Kyzer sighed and looked at Nomad and then Jehuty.

"I know I've just met you gents but your the only ones I can ask this of...Will you help me retake my clan? I would be in debt to the both of you..."

"Fits into my agenda," Replied Jehuty, "I need answers and if I have to fight to get them, so be it.  As soon as they open the hangar we can get moving."

Jehuty turned to the bartender.  "In our haste we never found out where we were.  What town is this?"

RE: Lost in the Desert

At Kyzer's request for their aid, Nomad simply looked off into the crowd of the bar and didn't answer.

He didn't really have a stake in Kyzer's problem. In fact, as far as Nomad was concerned, Kyzer already owed him for lifting that rubble off of him earlier in the day.

Not to mention Kyzer freely admitted to being a bandit. Nomad didn't have much appreciation for those types, even if Kyzer seemed like a good enough fellow so far.

So, with no reason to put himself in harm's way for a less than respectable stranger, why was he considering it? There was something tugging at the back of his mind. He recognized it, but wouldn't submit to it.

At Jehuty's question about the town's name, the bartender chuckled. "Depends on who ya ask. Right now most folks are callin' it Cooper, after a fella rode in, killed the sheriff and took over fer 'imself. Some people still call it by the old name, Grit Alley." The bartender looked off to the side and held up a finger. "Hold on a sec."

He turned around to the large icebox, pulled a bottle out, and slid it down the bar. It arrived in the outstretched hand of a patron who had just finished walking up to the bar. The patron smiled and nodded to the bartender and disappeared back into the wild throng. The bartender walked back over to Jehuty.

"What was I sayin'? Oh yeah, if you don't mind me askin', was that your ship landed in our hangar bay? Dorothy started gettin' a bit upset when it landed and didn't see no one inside."

He grinned as Jehuty answered "Thank you..." Kyzer knew it wasn't going to be easy to storm his old headquarters, but he did have an ace in the hole. There was a secret escape tunnel that he installed, it worked both ways if you knew the passcode that operated the door. Fortunantly no one besides Kyzer knew of this tunnel so the passcode couldn't have been altered.

Dirt Alley huh? sounds vaguely familiar I think we've raided this place before...perhaps a few locals remember me... he thought to himself.

He suddenly felt less safe in the but with a deep breath he calmed himself.

"So what about you Nomad? you havn't spoken..."

"Yep," Jehuty answered the bartender, "Do you think I can get into it soon?"

The bartender, looking annoyed but staying calm said, "Dorothy's usually up an' about by this time o' morning 'cross the street."  He motioned out his front door with his bottle opener.

"Thanks," said Jehuty, "let's get going."  He added toward his companions and started toward the door.
