The Mist of Wist

Imelda Failte walked through the hallways of her ship, the Red Water. Updated from her sea faring vessel to a MC41B Nexus.
She walks to the observer platform overlooking her cargo-hold. She sighs, as it had been some time since their last hit. They still had plenty of riches to last them a good long time, but it was never enough.

Their course was set for the moon of Wist. Rumor had it that the cities there had been abandoned for quite some time, and not many people dared to venture forth into them. It had taken them several weeks to get there, but they were within just a few hours distance from making ground.
She debated about going down and taking one of the fighters ahead just to check it out, and stretch her legs. She decided she could wait a while longer, and went back up to the living quarters.

She layed down on one of the couches in the collective living area, and thought about what she had heard about Wist several months back. A couple of Mercs she had run into, said that they had been to Wist recently, and said it had been over-run with demon-like creatures that they had refered to as the Rippov. They had said that some of the Rippov were as tall as 15 feet and carried large guns mounted to their backs and arms. This was a little unsettling, but Imelda figured that it wasn't anything a nuke or two couldn't wipe out if it came down to it.

As she sat staring at the ceiling, tapping her foot off the end of the couch to an in-audible beat, one of her officers walked up to her.

Officer: Captain, we have another ship in Hyperspace gaining on us. It appears as though it is on the same course as we are. The computer shows it as a small ship. Two, possibly three seater. Would do a significant amount of damage if we colided in mid-flight. Orders?
Imelda: Of course, there is no way to flag it?
Officer: No ma'am. We have tried, but it appears to not have mid-hyperspace communication. Like I said, a very small ship.
Imelda: (Sighs), Alright, come out of hyperspace, alter course, and go back in. Just make sure we're not going to get hit.
Officer: Yes, ma'am.
Imelda: We'll have to teach them some manners if we find them later.

The officer salutes and walks off briskly.

Imelda twirls her hair on her fingertip for a moment, and feels the ship jerk out of hyperspace. It alters it's course rather quickly, and then re-enters. She sighs again and gets up. She goes over to an access pannel and puts in her name and password, and brings up a map.

It shows the Red Water still several thousand miles from Wist, and a smaller ship, almost alongside the Red Water.

She closes down the access pannel and goes into her bedroom to catch a couple hours of shut-eye before landing.

RE: The Mist of Wist

(Continued from The Reckoning)

Neil checks caller ID. It's that slagging Jimmy Carter again. I wish he'd just leave me alone. I'm not interested in your hair care products.

He realizes that's not a telephone ringing and wakes up to a cacophony of beeps. He looks up from his position on the floor behind the pilot's seat of his ship and sees no one is manning the controls.

Where's Szyren?!

He leaps frantically to his feet and scans his surroundings quickly for bloodthirsty aliens. He leans against the seat as his vision goes spotty from standing up so fast.

He realizes the noise is the alarm intended to wake you up when you fall asleep during hyperspace travel. The ship hadn't received any input within thirty seconds from exiting hyperspace and is making emergency stop procedures automatically.

He calms down and finally notices Szyren lying on the bed. He wonders if she actually wasn't awakened by the noise or if she's just pretending so he would deal with it.

Oh well. He sits down and checks his surroundings. The moon Wist lies below him, with Aikon off to the front. He redirects the ship toward Wist and begins to put on the thrust when a ship blasts out of hyperspace very near him.

Neil: JEEZ WHAT THE HECK—!

He stops the ship and checks out what just appeared in front of him. It is an MC41B Nexus; a very large ship, generally considered a capital ship for smaller forces. He wonders what it's doing here at the same time as he.

RE: The Mist of Wist

Szyren really is very much asleep and having a strange dream about a beeping bomb (which she is thorougly enjoying, by the way), though she is woken rather quickly at Neil's exclamation.  The first thing she does is wonder how the heck she got from the control panel, which is distinctly where she remembers being last, to the bed.

She clambers out and shuffles, sleepy eyed, into the cockpit to see what the commotion is all about.

Szyren: What’s the ruckus?

She stops short as she sees the very large capital looking ship floating in space ahead of them.  Instinctively, she ducks and crawls under the console.

Szyren: Do you think they saw me?  Oh geez…

She then recognizes the absurdity of her actions and stands back up, dusting herself off.

Szyren: You really aughta invest in a vacuum or something...

RE: The Mist of Wist

Imelda stood on the bridge, looking at an access pannel of right outside the ship. As they came out of Hyperspace, it took her a moment for her eyes to re-adjust. As they did though, she could make out a small cargo ship floating right off their starboard.

She thought about just shooting their ship down and watching it burn, but thought better of it. They might come in handy. If anything, as bait for the Rippov. She decided to raise a call to them, and use the computer to mask her voice.

It took several minutes for the call to go through and be accepted.

Imelda: This is the captain of the Red Water. State your business, or prepare to be fired upon. You have ten seconds to comply.

Neil: Uh, gimme a sec.

He quickly pulls up the hyperspace course for Wist, glares at Szyren, and points at the part about how dangerous it is.

Neil: Look. Look. Now we're going to die.

He takes a breath and hits the talk button.

Neil: I was looking for pirates. There are obviously none here, so I'll just be... on my way.

Imelda: Excuse me? Looking for pirates? Have you never heard of the infamous Red Water? The ship that stole the treasury of the Mahl Jong? The mysterious captain that none have lived to tell about? You made a mighty mistake, sir.

Imelda cuts the line.

Imelda: PREPARE TO BOARD.

RE: The Mist of Wist

Neil's brow furrows. He turns to Szyren.

Neil: Did that thing just get indignant about not knowing who it is, and in the same breath say nobody's lived to tell about it?

He rubs his chin, then begins to giggle.

Neil: Pirates are stupid.

He turns back to the controls, aims the ship straight into the Nexus's hangar, and punches the throttle.

Neil: It's go time, baby.

RE: The Mist of Wist

Szyren has about a million witty comebacks to reply with, both to the snarky woman on the 'enemy' vessel, and to Neil, but she doesn't get a chance to use any of them before they are threatened.  Rather rudely and for no good reason.

With the death-threat still looming in the air, Szyren takes out her napkin and looks at it quickly, just to make sure she hasn't missed something.  Then she tears it in two, and eats it.  With a mouth full of paper weave, she responds:

Szyren: Yesh, Piraths shore are shtupith...

After swallowing she grabs something to hold on to as Neil sets a collision course for the pirate ship.

Szyren: And rude, too.  Jumpy, and, I might add, very prideful.  I mean... heck, she's acting like it's her space, and I don't see her name written on it anywhere, do you?  Didn't think so.  And she's all in a huff about her ship.  I've heard of it.  She didn't give me a chance to say so. ...Besides, with the reputation it's got, I wouldn't go around bragging about being the captian of the Red Water.

Szyren has never really truly disliked someone, but this pirate has made a very bad first impression, and Szyren very desperately wants to blow a hole in her ship.  Unfortunatly, she's used her last red rocket taking care of the chiropractor's office.

This is okay though, as she can concoct something much, much worse than a Red Rocket.

RE: The Mist of Wist

Neil: You know what her problem is?

He slows down drastically inside the hangar and sets the ship down on top of a big box of valuables, crushing it.

Neil: She doesn't have a... big ol'... honkin'... hole in her ship.

He gets up, walks over near the bed, where his weapons have all fallen in a heap on the floor over time, and begins placing them on his body.

Neil: Wait.

He stops abruptly in mid-holster.

Neil: Why did I just fly into an infamous pirate's ship?

RE: The Mist of Wist

Szyren: See...

She lets go of whatever it was that she was holding on to and takes a step in Neil's direction.

Szyren: I kinda thought you were planning on flying through the ship, and not into it.  Or maybe, you know, playing chicken with it and zipping out of the way.  Or maybe even just trying to trick it somehow and then we'd escape miraculously.

She unzips her back and quickly takes out a few key ingrediants and her lighter, shoves them down her shirt into a few hidden compartments where they won't be found (just in case they get patted down or something stupid like that) and then slings her bag back over shoulder.  She's still talking as she's doing this.

Szyren: So why you flew in here is beyond me.  But since we're here, we might as well do a little damage.  I like the way you're thinking with that BFG there.
