Of Spaceport Markets

Raelan paid the docking fees for his shuttle, and nodded to security on the way out, his wings tail, and other extremities made of unused energy were all in full, that said, he walked with a slightly odd sway, like one who actually had such wings and tail, the wings (which he swore he could feel the weight of, if not exactly the same weight actual wings of that size would have) kept his posture straight.

He stepped out into the open and became rather excited it was like a mall crossed with a swap meet, official stores and personal booths all set in a tourist inspired hell. But he could feel the magic! he prepared a magic detection aurasphere, he'd have to check everything he tried to buy, because as with all tourist places half of this stuff wasn't what it was said to be.

Thus he set out hitting mostly technical booths and stores, but he didn't skimp out on the magical ones, investigating every oddity, and if he considered buying them he dropped the magic detection on them to see what was used on them. Soon he had a small collection of mostly useful items, at least to him.

This detection magic was his own creation, based on the way he used his magic, so he got many odd looks when it was used, he also got odd looks from those that could feel him overcharged with magic. He especially got odd looks for his cybernetic hand. First, most such devices were colored to resemble the original limb. Second, in a world so suffused with magic, if you have an injury, magic is used to heal it, making the need for such a limb negligible, so ordinary common folk would have no idea why he would have (or want) a metal hand.

RE: Of Spaceport Markets

(Hope this is ok)

He yawned as he leaned back in the wooden chair. He looked out from under the coffee shop's awning and watched the going-ons. Dante took the last sip of his coffee and affixed his top hat on top of his head. He left ten tape on the table then suddenly he felt a field of energy (Raelan). Dante looked for the source of it and found Raelan amongst the crowd.

"Things have just become interesting" he muttered to himself as he began walk towards Raelan. Dante was dressed in his fancy clothes black dress pants, black cane, white undershirt, White gloves, and black top hat he was hardly inconspicuous. Dante had just finished a successful assassination and was taking a short vacation on Micc, although it had been much more boring than he originally thought. Raelan peeked his interest mechanical arm and wings Dante just had to know the story behind those.

As Dante approached Raelan he prepared the spell "mark" (Look on my profile page for a description of it). A pile of shiny dust appeared in his hands, he hoped to pass it off as raw material for a device or something. When Dante came close to Raelan he faked tripping and threw the dust up in the general area of Raelan, the shiny dust fading into the air and onto clothing of several people. "Sorry everyone!" he said as he returned to his feet dusting himself off "I did not mean to trip, such a transgression will never happen again I swear!" Dante spoke in his usual over-dramatic tone as he pretended to look ashamed.

RE: Of Spaceport Markets

(that's actually pretty good, watch the signature though, you may wanna uncheck the option when you RP post. By the way, Raelan's wings are typically invisible unless he expends energy, or there's a magic detection sphere up, I prolly should have mentioned that... of course it isn't necessarily impossible for a caster to simply see magic as well. I'll cover just in case you don't want that talent ^-^)

Raelan managed to close off the detection aurasphere just before the dust hit him, he had been investigating a large statue, and in order to see all of it properly the sphere he had made was big enough to encompass him as well, showing off his ghostly wings, tail, and other reptilian accessories until the sphere dissipated, at which point they vanished, along with the crazy jumbled colors of enchantment which plastered his cybernetic arm. if the sphere had stayed any longer Dante's 'dust' would have glowed like no tomorrow, and there's still a chance if the sphere covers him again the enchantment on him will glow.

(detects surface thoughts, okay, I'll annotate them for you) As the dust hit Dante got -is rather useless on a stat- the thought was interrupted by instinctively coughing at the dust odd dress style... if that's a mage outfit I'll never do a show on that planet. "You alright there?" with a slight laugh at the end of the sentence. He then looked around and realized that people weren't only staring at the odd man, they were staring at him, well, more so than they had been so far with all of his oddities. he paused for a second, then realized. Oh.... that was a big sphere... they saw. Oh well, too late now.

To the people staring at him he half waved "Sorry, don't mind me, it's just the way my magic works." with that most of them went back about their business, magic is magic after all, he mentally sighed relief. His attention re-focused on the oddly dressed man. "Have to watch your footing around here from what I can see, lot of movement, a trip like that is an open invitation for a pickpocket too, I've seen a couple." He frowns for a second, magical pickpockets... Honestly...

With that he nods to the man, and begins to go to another stall with some mechanical components, the two bags of what he's already collected hanging from his left arm, the non cybernetic one.

RE: Of Spaceport Markets

"Thank you kind sir!" he says to Raelan, Dante spins his cane a few times as he sorts through the thoughts of other people affected by the dust to find Raelan's. He pulls out his orion holocommunicator and makes a few notes on Raelen's magic and appearance.

Dante looks around the marketplace and shrugs 'I've got nothing better to do' he thinks to himself. He begins to catch up with Raelan planning to ask him about his arm. His plans however are inturrupted by a big burly man grabbing him by the collar. Dante looks up at the man "Uhm...sir this shirt is quite expensive, probably worth more than your life so would you please let me go and tell me why you grabbed me" the man tightens his grip and brings Dante in even closer "You killed my brother John you slagger now your going to pay!".

He looks innocently at the man "Let's see let's see...John...wasen't that the guy who whined like a baby and begged me not to kill him? ah Yes I still remeber him. Honestly why do you want to avenge that wimps death?". The man throws Dante to the ground ripping his shirt in the process. Dante coughs and tries to regain his wind "you..Bliter...th..that was..my..faveorite...shirt". In an instance Dante cracks the man in the jaw with his cane. The man sways but does not lose his footing and before Dante has a chance to attack again the man is upon him. Burly Man is choking Dante with one thick hand and wrestling the cane from him with the other.

RE: Of Spaceport Markets

(a bit aggressive there, his response to the guy isn't going to earn any points with anyone but a serial killer, and if an idiot like that can identify him, he must have been a terrible, if effective assassin....)

Raelan paused in his inspection of the stall, listening to the beginning of the commotion, but not turning around to look. A murderer? That response... graceful... who would respond like that, definitely not self defense, and the guy identified him so easily, must have been just as graceful of a killing as his response... Once it hit the dirt however he turned around, even a murderer I can't allow to be killed in the street, and even with a response like that it, quit lying, it probably wasn't justified, but the people here don't need this kind of trauma.

He dives in on the man, using the magic to augment the strength in his arms, back and legs, prying the man off of Dante, if barely. "Like it or not you can't kill a murderer in the street sir. If you must, just hold him down until law enforcement arrives, they can ship him to whatever planet the crime was committed on, and that planet can put him into whatever concrete hole (his term for prison) they feel like. But it must be determined if it was justified at all." He put an energy buildup around both of his hands, preparing to cast anything that might become necessary.

RE: Of Spaceport Markets

All this was transpiring in front of a small booth that was suffused with subtle magic.  Not the flashy stuff that was pulling Raelan's attention all over the place, but the kind that attracted without drawing attention.

So when the big man started to fight the odd gentleman with the cane, the kind-faced proprietor who sat in the stand was watching. He heard a murder accusation and a vulgar confession that belied the "gentleman's" clothing.

Nothing direct needed to be done by him at this point.  Perhaps the assassin would attempt to run now that so much attention was focused on the little group.  No doubt he had an effective method for doing just that.

Lao-tzu decided it would be most interesting to prevent that, however.  For one, it could be dangerous to the public.  For another, he wanted to see the colors of these men exposed more clearly, and that required time.  Quietly, he began to conjure a web to ensnare Dante should he decide to take off.  He kept it at a distance and in the abstract plane but infused it with quite a bit of power, ready to trigger at a moment's notice and effectively tailor the web to the needs of the moment.

Ah, but no.  They actually started to fight, and the gadget-happy mage with the metal hand who was near demonstrated a strong streak of justice and sense of public good by intervening. Marvelous, perhaps the web would prove to be unnecessary.  But now there was an imminent risk of explosive violence.  All three of the men were rapidly approaching a cusp, and even Lao-tzu couldn't predict what would happen.

Dante's eyes dart around trying to find a way out. His lungs were burning for a gasp of air. Upon Raelan yelling at Burly Man his grip loosened. "But he killed my bro...and then he shot me whatever the law gives him will be too good" He told Raelan, he was beginning to calm down. Dante wove a quick spell (Sleep) and Burly Man's grip released so that he was barely holding Dante.

Burly Man's eyes drooped a bit and he yawned. "I s'pose it's...*yawn* better if the police..take 'em" he stands up and staggers a bit. Dante slowly returns to his feet and looks at the small crowd that has gathered than at Raelan. "So is that it then?" Dante asks "am I just supposed to wait 'ere for the law?".

RE: Of Spaceport Markets

(you're forgiven, people have lives, I know this ^-^)

Raelan hesitates, then lets the man go, blinking uncertainly ...What do I do now? I can't just step out now. Dang it! I don't know people, it was so much simpler in that cave..... But I can't go back to that, but seriously..... then he realized the man's unusual lethargy. He's a caster. "who was your brother, what did he do that would get him killed and you shot?" even a man like that isn't likely to kill without motivation, this still could be justified....

His best defense against casters is to see what they are doing. He raises his right hand, using the energy he had built up there to make a large magic detection aurasphere around himself, and the two men, at which point if he had looked at himself he would have seen Dante's enchantment, as it was the swirl of enchantments appeared on his cybernetic hand, his wings, tail, and other draconic additives glowed their unmodified energy white, though slightly more ghostly than they were when they showed last time the sleep enchantment on the man showed as a tracework of mostly reds and yellows. Anything of Dante's that is enchanted shows, and the magical buildup around Raelan's left hand is clearly visible.

He chose his left because in this setting he wanted the hand with the defensive crystal closest to it to be able to cast, but the energy wasn't dedicated to anything yet. "kindly remove the spell you put on this man, I can hold him back if need be." he dropped his right hand to a ready position, but as it stood he could only split focus to maintain two spells of the size he'd be likely to need, so he couldn't dispel it and keep his guard up. Using the sword was a last resort, and he wouldn't 'tie off' the detection sphere, because he didn't know how long he'd need it.

RE: Of Spaceport Markets

(hold on, can other people see the results of the aurasphere? it sounds like 'yes', but if I'm wrong let me know and I'll have to do a rewrite... clearly Lao-tzu won't be doing much this turn either)

Lao-tzu witnessed the murderer using a very safe and harmless spell to disengage his aggressor.  That's a good sign.  The Kiefan then cast something strange, something that filled the surrounding space with magical energy that glowed when it interacted with other magic.  Such an interesting invention, Lao-tzu thought gleefully.  This trip to the spaceport was turning quite profitable indeed.

The abstract nature of the web spell apparently made it unrecognizeable to anyone without an understanding of Calabi-Yau topology.  Just as well, because it would work much better without warning.

Now the Kiefan asked the question Lao-tzu had been waiting for, who was this murder victim?  Everything that transpired next would depend on the answer.  Lao-tzu leaned forward in anticipation.

RE: Of Spaceport Markets

None of Dante's items glow, although Dante himself seems to emanate a faint red glow originating from his core. The glow seemed to shift around weakening and strengthening it almost seemed like a small blaze.

He looks at Raelan and replied "Technically the spell is off him". He looked over the spell at Burly Man "It just burned off all his energy the only thing that will return him to a normal state is a good nap". Dante turned back around and looked at Burly Man "well? answer the man...". Without waiting for the man to talk Dante pulled out his Orion Holocommunicator and searched through it.
In a grainy computerized voice the communicator talked

Dante coughed a bit and returned the communicator to his pocket. "As you can see the man I eliminated was not innocent I try and only pick hits that, well to put it frank, have it comin' to 'em." He looked in Lao-Tzu's general direction than looked away "As for Meathead here he got in the way, guilty by association".
