RE: Perhaps the best NES game ever.

Beat-'em-up isn't the same as the fighting genre. Think Double Dragon and River City Ransom.

They just... don't make 'em anymore. wat

RE: Perhaps the best NES game ever.

I wouldn't say Dead or Alive was my favorite game, but it's my favorite fighting game. Laughing I still play Street Fighter II: The World Warrior from time to time. That was my first fighting game and I wore that thing out. I've played the first Mortal Kombat and one of the ones on the PS1, but I didn't really care for them.

Man, beat-'em-up, where have you gone? Sad

Jacinto City Ransom, an all-new beat-'em-up from Epic Games! Choose from any of your favorite Gears of War characters including: Marcus, Dom, Cole Train, Baird, or John Wayne and clean up the streets of Jacinto!

OK. wat

Man, I wanted to believe you SO MUCH.  I even googled Jacinto City Ransom.  And then I cried a little.

There's a small Swedish game dev company working on a Gauntlet-style game where you use Street-fighter style combos to cast magic spells.  It sounds really interesting.  The name is "Magicka"...

RE: Jacinto City Ransom

ha ha ha, I can't memorize combos at all, they don't stay in my mind, so the first fighting game that I ever played that I wasn't always creamed at was DOA 2 ultimate, and 3.... and you're right.... the closest you get to beat 'em up games now is the RPG's... I mean they even continued pitfall game concept at least with Prince of Persia, and maybe a few others.

I guess straight beat 'em up games got replaced by the hack and slashes? like the diablos and their counterparts?

RE: Jacinto City Ransom

I was going to say third person action games like Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden have taken their place, but I don't know.

RE: Jacinto City Ransom

that would be it, the hack and slashes, and the 3rd person actions, after all.... 2d sidescrolling would be pretty sad on our new advanced systems wouldn't they? there was this one I played on the ps2.....

man I forgot what it was, some ninja thing, I loved it, my roommate had it in tech school, you could assassinate people if you caught them unaware or you had to fight them normally if they saw you... and they could alert others nearby. there were two characters you could play, a chick with a sword, or a rougher woman with two wakizashis, and you had limited gear you could carry per scenario.

if you know what I'm talking about tell me the name I'd love to get it.... but that's pretty near the 3d version of beat them ups....

Time to gripe about semantics.

Vega said, "Yeah... even I got a little excited over the GoW fighting game. Laughing"

First you call DOA a beat-'em-up, then you call my made-up beat-'em-up a fighting game. Make up your mind. Laughing

I never called DOA a beat-'em-up. Laughing
