RE: Community input: Vehicle Design

Model: Chancellor
Manufacturer: Draken Shores
Type: Capital
Field: Space, atmosphere
Hyperdrive: Twin Zeren-Thal Medium Range drives
Life Support: Yes
Artificial Gravity: Yes
Length: 130 yards
Capacity: 38 men / 40x20 yard hangar
Armaments: 10x medium missile turrets / 6x medium flak turrets / 6x medium ion turrets / 6x light ion turrets / 3x heavy gauss turrets / 1x very heavy gauss cannon

If the Nexus is barely a capital ship, Draken Shores' Chancellor is more of a frigate, designed as an escort for resource convoys, most of its weapons are made to take out smaller craft such as fighters, typically a small portion of the missile ammunition is reserved for cluster missiles as well. Despite its main purpose of fighter clearing, larger craft are advised not to take this model lightly. The heavy gauss turrets can do a surprising amount of damage, and the forward facing gauss cannon, while containing a limited number of shots, and a slow reload process, fires a very large, very heavy shell. It has become a slogan for Chancellor captains 'Just.... don't miss.'

It carries 2-3 wings of fighters for extra coverage, Being a Draken Shores design ship the compliment is likely (but not always) Thoron models, which have a surprising range and field staying time, so it isn't unfathomable for the pirates to bring some unexpected company home in the form of Thoron fighters, to be followed by the Chancellor in counter attack.

In large, more military engagements this model is likely to be seen clearing the way for a larger capital ship, often in pairs. Their spade-like shape gives them the appearance of literally driving a wedge into the enemies forces.

New Class: Scout

I propose an entirely new class of space vehicle dubbed "Scouts".  Scouts adhere to the following template:

Model: Various
Manufacturer: Many
Type: Scout
Field: Space, atmosphere
Hyperdrive: [usually extended-range]
Sensors and Communications array: [advanced, often including radar jamming suite]
Life Support: Yes
Artificial Gravity: [rarely]
Length: [usually shorter than 20 feet]
Crew Capacity: [1-3 occupants]
Cargo Capacity: [rarely more than 50 cubic feet]
Shields: [rarely]
Armaments: [no more than 4 light weapon slots and 2 medium weapon slots.  Common loadout example: 2 light laser weapons or autocannons, and 1 .100 cal. magnetic accelerator cannon or guided missile launcher]

Scouts are light craft intended for reconnaissance and quick travel for only a few crew members.  Of the other ship classes, they are most like fighters.  Unlike most fighters, however, scouts are usually poorly armed, but have some of the most advanced hyperdrives available.  Unshielded, they do not last long in combat, but if they escape, they are instrumental in the deployment of reinforcements.  Because of their fighter-inspired sublight engines, scouts are a favorite of space racers and are often retrofitted as luxury vehicles for the elite.  There are also many cases of use by bounty hunters, who can easily stalk their prey through space and await a planetside arrival.  Scouts are known to conveniently be the primary test subjects for experimental cloaking systems.

The M107 Anti-Materiel Rifle. It all began when a Marine put a scope on his HMV-mounted .50 machinegun and killed an enemy combatant a mile and a half away.

You killed my father.
Big mistake.

RE: New Class: Scout

That's not a bad idea, since ships like the CP3 Vexxer (a shuttle) and the RXN-3 Thunderbird (a fighter) belong more in a category like that.
