Religions

It's time for my once-a-decade update!

While reading some information about Daireem today, I realized that we somehow had no religions really mentioned at all anywhere in the entire universe of Daireem. Including in the old Meeriad pages. I'm not sure how it never came up, but it blew my mind. So, I set out to create some religions for the peoples of Daireem. The following posts will be about which popular religions exist within the universe. It is in no way an exhaustive list. The universe is far too wide and diverse to just have a couple.

RE: Religions

Tre Nu'tuuk - Orc religion followed by roughly 76% of all Orcs.

The book of Tre Nu'tuuk starts with the creation of the Orcs from three warriors who came together from the stars and settled on Tecom. Although these warriors were of superior skill, strength, and intelligence on the battlefield, they laid down their battle axes to begin life anew. After millennia of fighting among themselves and the other Gods, these three gave up that life to celebrate the quiet of peace. They learned how to create instead of destroy; how to love instead of hate; how to grow instead of burn.

In the beginning, there was Thurak, father of all Orcs. Nyeesh'mar, mother of the darker skinned Nye. And Octash, mother of the fair skinned Tash.

To this day, the priests of Nye and Tash both pray to the All-Father, Thurak on behalf of their people. Each individual tribe has it's own shaman. Each shaman is chosen by the orcs of that tribe to represent them. Each shaman must make a pilgrimage to the home of the All-Father to study and learn the ways of the magic that comes from that place. While they are there, they also learn the ways of the land; how to grow. They also learn the old ways--the ways of war. The priests then go back to their tribe and act as the sage to their people. They are never allowed to be Chief of their tribe, but are considered the most respected individual, as they have the knowledge of the All-Father.

Once every ten years, the shamen come together to decide who shall be the priest of their people. There are only ever two: one Nye and one Tash. They are usually the most powerful and wise of the shamen. It is the priests who read the ancient texts and teach the shamen who come to the All-Father's house. They live on the grounds of the Gods. They tend the soil, and study the art of war.

RE: Religions

Cult of the Masters/Cult of Uth - A small cult that has a spattering of followers on several worlds.

Members of this cult are seen as whackjobs and morons from those on the outside.

Their belief holds that many eons ago, travelers from a galaxy known as the "Milky Way" on the planet "Uth" came to the Daireem galaxy, looking to start new life. These travelers, known as Dominion Masters, brought with them a ship the size of a planet that was able to encompass a planet and terraform it, and create new life within.
