Androids come in many shapes and sizes. They are artificial beings, and differentiate from Bio Shells in that they are not biomechanical, but made of your run-of-the-mill electronics, with some exceptions.
Androids by definition follow a set programming, which can be as basic or as advanced as the creator wishes, and learning and even changes in their own character are not beyond them, if they are so designed.
It is important, when designing an artificial intelligence intended for an operable being, to test it extensively in a sandbox. There are countless documented occurrences of robots doing horrific things due to oversight in their artificial intelligence, in large part due to the strict, unforgiving logic of programming versus the situational consideration of a man.
