Life support systems are essentially atmosphere generators, creating
an artificial breathable environment. Though generally associated
with spacecraft, they can be used to create an enclosed, inhabitable
environment on a planet with no atmosphere. Depending on the size of the ship, life support can be extremely large and require a copious amount of maintenance. For this reason, many fighters are not equipped with life support. Most cargo ships, spacecraft carriers, and capital ships can drain atmosphere back into the life support hub so as not to vent its entire atmosphere into space when cargo bays, launch tubes, and hangar bays are opened in space. |
