RE: The Mist of Wist

Short Billy and his first mate Mr. Mozart trek through the rain and happen upon a field outside the city. It's just a large, grassy plain that appears amazingly undisturbed.

Short Billy: Avast, we are likely to be eaten by the Kraken if we venture yonder. I don't advise it, Mr. Mozart.

However, Mr. Mozart wasn't looking at the field. He was looking back toward the fog-laden city, hair on the back of his neck raised. He lets out a low growl.

Short Billy: What is it, matey?

Keeping a careful eye in the direction he was already looking, Mr. Mozart begins to walk toward a small alley way. Short Billy follows. They kneel behind a pile of trash and watch the street.

Out of the fog marches a squad of Rippov grunts, wielding their over-sized rifles hewn from twisted steel and covered with the dried blood of their enemies. Many twisted spikes and barbs uniquely adorn each weapon.

Short Billy: Shiver me timbers. Good eye, matey.

They watch in uneasy silence as the squad marches past. They don't head into the field. They turn down another street and disappear into the heavy fog.

Behind them, Billy and Mozart hear the sounds of multiple splashes rapidly approaching. They turn around to see a number of grimlins scampering down the alley toward them, splashing through the many puddles. They begin to screech, and several of them leap toward the pirates.

Short Billy: BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES!!!

Billy leaps into battle, drawing his musket and firing a shot, dropping one grimlin. He lets the smoking, empty pistol fall to the ground and draws his cutlass, slicing another creature in half as it flies past. He begins to parry their claws, chips of his blade flying through the air. Mr. Mozart jumps onto one, grasping its neck in his jaws.

Unfortunately, the commotion alerts the squad of Rippov and they reemerge from the fog, alert, looking for the source of the ruckus.

One takes a round to the head and flops to the ground. The rest turn and begin firing off into an unseen direction, gunfire coming at them from an unknown source.

Short Billy finishes the last grimlin and tosses its carcass out into the street. He scoops up his pistol, shoving it into his cracked leather belt, and begins to move down the alley away from the fight. He doesn't know who the Rippov are fighting, but he's sure as shootin' glad it isn't him.

---

Jack Knopfler, former Ellixan soldier turned guerilla fighter, finishes the mag in his large rifle and pulls a grenade from his satchel, arming it. He tosses it toward the grunts. He and his men duck behind a pile of rubble as it blows, taking out several of the hideous creatures. Most of the shrapnel was absorbed by just a few of the grunts.

Guerilla Fighter: Frag, these guys can take a beating!

Jack slams another magazine into his rifle, rips the charging handle, and finishes the rest of the grunts off.

They step out from behind the rubble to better survey the havoc.

Buck: Whoo, baby! Yeah!

RE: The Mist of Wist

"I would much rather get eaten with my weapons and information on what we're going to be doing" he gasps through mouthfulls of ramen. Truth finishes the ramen and acts like he is thinking "oh and I would like to know the name of the lady I'm working for... I believe that I have weapons aboard my ship may I go get them?" he almost whispers.

RE: The Mist of Wist

Szyren scribbles a few things down on the napkin after it's handed back to her, and laughs.  Meladi... that's good enough.  She wouldn't tell her real name either, if she was some reputable pirate captain that could hold it over everyone's head.  She tears the napkin into six peices and rearranges them a few times.

Limade is her favorite anagram of the ones she creates.

How does she know Imelda is lying?  Because she's intuitive, and she figures the captain isn't an idiot.  A name is a very precious thing to keep.

When Imelda comes back, dressed nicely in her armor, Szyren abandons her project and just leaves the napkin as she's arranged it.  Her food is long gone.

Szyren: I think I'd like my backpack back now please, if we're going to go worm-hunting.

What a coincidence that the napkin shards now read:

iMelda.

Szyren doesn't have a clue.

RE: The Mist of Wist

Neil thinks back to an episode of Muppet Babies from when he was a kid in which everybody is badgering Kermit over a secret that they find out the next morning, but they can't live with that, and... yeah.

He smiles. Muppet Babies was a great cartoon.

Coming back to the present, he wonders why anybody cares what her name is. Captain Curlyhair of the Red Water is good enough for him, it's not like he's married to a pirate and doesn't even know her name. He's never been too good at all those... ahem.

But he does have a feeling the pieces of napkin on the table reading "iMelda" mean something. Seems a fitting name for that accent anyway.

But she'll stay Captain Curlyhair anyway.

Neil: So now we're sequentially asking for our weapons back? I'll get on that bandwagon.

He sets his coffee cup on a random cooking surface.

RE: The Mist of Wist

All three of them ask for their weapons within a matter of a minute. This annoys Imelda. She ponders a moment, but can think of no good reason they shouldn't have them back.
Other than the fact that they might all turn their guns on her, and kill her instantly. Not a very nice thought.
If they were even smarter, they would kill her down on the planet. Less people to shoot them after they shot her.

Decisions. She hates them so much.

Imelda: I hate them so much.

The three of them just look at her, wondering what on earth she hates.

Imelda: Alright, fine. You can have your weapons back. Though, if you turn them on me you will be sorry. Bounties will be put upon your heads. Big ones. You won't survive more than a couple days, I would imagine. Like those Mecheeto's. I heard they died a couple hours after the bounty went out.

Their weapons are passed back out.
Truth starts to ask her name again.

Imelda: No.

Szyren sighs heavily.

Szyren: A'ight, Cap-ee-tan, I'll try not to blow you up or anything too critical like.

She rolls her eyes and snatches her backpack away from the pirate that is handing it to her oh-so-reluctantly.

Szyren: Can't say the same for you though, bully face.

Szyren puts her pack back where it belongs and feels complete again.  When the pirate gives her back her gun also, she laughs.  She had forgotten about it.  It was pretty useless to her, afterall.  But she takes it and sticks it back where it belongs as well.

She considers putting all her secret ingredients back, too, but decides against it.

Szyren: Oh, and, I hate them too.

She assumes by them, Imelda/Meladi is referring to the omniscient they and they are a spiteful lot.

RE: The Mist of Wist

Given that his blasters are sitting on the floor in the hangar, and his XD and Mossberg are still on his ship, he is only given back his knife and Glock.

Neil: I could really use the giant hand mashing the fast forward button on the universal remote right now.

He stands there in the kitchen.

The smell of cabbage hits him. He groans, hacks, and makes various other noises as he makes his way briskly to the door to escape the thick cabbage air.

While he's walking, he figures he might as well head to the hangar.

He does.

RE: The Mist of Wist

They all follow in Neil's tracks and make their way down to the hangar. The security has laxed a little bit, as the pirates have come to realize that the boarders really meant no harm. However, they are still on edge. Imelda hopes no one gets any ideas.

They stand and talk for a couple more minutes about how they think the weather will be down on the planet, and they decide it might be warm. No one packs a rain jacket.

They load up into a small shuttle and head down to the surface. They sit there looking from one person to the next on the ride down. It is utterly boring.

Imelda: This is utterly boring.

As they enter the atmosphere, they hear a loud clap of thunder nearby. Neil starts talking about a Kraken or something, even though they are in the air. No one pays him much heed.
They tighten their seatbelts.

Imelda: I sure hope we don't get hi--

Something hits the side of the ship and it rockets towards the ground.

God: Not again... Does everyone insist on crashing?

They can feel that they're freefalling, yet Neil remains surprisingly calm.

Neil: Told you; Kraken.

He says it very matter-of-factly and looks out the window. He sees a muddy river nearby.

Neil: Half of us can make it if we jump as hard as we can and then cushion our fall into that river with the bodies of nameless characters here.

One of the nameless pirates looks very uncomfortable as Neil's gaze is directed at him.

Neil: Or maybe you have parachutes. Either one.

RE: The Mist of Wist

Szyren rolls her eyes and hunches over in her seat.  She's never actually crashed... only blown ships up.  There is a very valid difference.  When blowing things up, she is never in danger.  Crashing, however, is different.  If the things in her bag get banged about too much they might just explode on their own.  Then she would be in danger.  It's no good.

Szyren: What a pain.

Szyren hears something very strange.

Szyren (to herself): That is a very good question, God.  Let me know if you figure it out.

Neil is talking again.  Szyren tries to pay attention.

Szyren: I volunteer bully-face to be a cushion.
