Mia Kara de Verda Stelo

I had fun writing this Smile  I've done a lot of historical RP before, but have never been able to get the Esperanto in, usually because it wouldn't have been invented yet... it was interesting thinking of how this character might have worked.  If any of this is not within canon please do say. I've cobbled together a lot of old ideas that I wasn't able to use before. Looking forward to writing with you all!

Character Name:
Mia Kara de Verda Stelo

Age:
25

Gender:
Female

Species:
Human.  Her mother had been from a long line of feline shapeshifters, an unusual animal mother had called "The Breed".  This is a muscular, large, cat-like beast, the most notable feature being three long, sword-like retractable claws on each forefoot that spring from the wrists evenly spaced (one directly upwards in a 12 o'clock position, and one either side of the wrist at the 4 and 8 o'clock positions. These are so large that the human in Breed form has to stand on hind limbs to open and retract them, and they slide back along the sides of radius and ulna like extra bones.  They are considerably sharp along one side, like a sabre, although the Breed are more likely to display them to put off attack than actually use them.  Verda has not yet shown any ability to shapeshift, although she has the dormant ability, unknown to her.

Description:
Verda is short, just over five foot tall, and slim but rather curvy.  She has skin that is light but not pale, and her most striking feature is a mane of black, wavy hair reminiscent of the mermaids of legend.
Her personality is businesslike but sometimes coquettish, and she likes to think she makes friends easily and gets on well with others, although she does not suffer fools gladly.

History:
Verda is part of an obscure group of humans that left Earth millenia ago - they spoke a universal second language, as well as their first languages, and were therefore able to act as translators for the other Earth races on the colony ships they served on. Verda was brought up speaking this language, in fact her real name (Mia Kara) means "my dear".  The station was so small that everyone knew everyone else and surnames were not considered necessary, but for off-station form-filling, she would write her name as "Mia Kara de Verda Stelo" While Mia was all for intergalactic peace and friendship, she was a little more practical than her parents were and thought them a little over-idealistic and naive.  Her suspicion of others is reinforced when the space habitat that her parents lived on was raided and destroyed by pirates while young Mia was studying at an off-station college in her early twenties.  On her return to her home, she finds the station an airless hulk, all those inside dead.  In mourning she decides that she will be known in future merely as "Verda Stelo", which was the name of the stricken station, in its honour.  It means "green star", and is the symbol of the language of peace that they used.  So Mia became Verda, and while she tries to live according to the ideals of peace and friendship that her parents espoused, the part of her that is Verda is bitter, lonely and tries to push aside thoughts of revenge.

Item(s):
Verda came from a peaceful, non-combatant station, but had been encouraged from an early age to study martial arts, to learn strength, agility and self-control. Her mother also sensed that young Mia was ashamed that she didn't seem to have her mother's shapeshifting ability, so Mia's mother made sure she learned the use of blades, and often would shapeshift and display her claws to spar with her daughter. Since the loss of her parents and home, Verda has invested in more lethal versions of the wooden weapons with which she practised. She has two field knives, one strapped to each hip for easy throwing, and another smaller knife hidden up one sleeve.  She wears two katana at her shoulders, crossed over her back.  The hilts protrude over her shoulders for a quick draw.  As a more up-to-date precaution, she also carries two beam sabres.

A pouch at her hip carries medical supplies, and she wears a necklace around her neck with a Celtic knotwork symbol.  She is wearing fairly normal ship overalls, bearing a flag on the breast that is mainly green, with a white canton top left in which is a green five-pointed star.  In one of her pockets is a combined communication/entertainment/note taking device.

Ship/Vehicle:
Verda flies a GreyWolf, that had been the fast courier ship used on the Verda Stelo, her home station.  She has renamed it "Esperanto" - both the name of her parents' language, and also a word in their language meaning "one who hopes".  She finds that pleasingly ironic.

Top stuff.

So do I just start in space and see what happens?  I might be able to get some of my more RP-involved friends to come onboard if it's all quiet here, although I'm hoping that new stories to read will get some thread movement from the old guard in here. Smile  It's a great idea so I hope to have some fun with it.

I'll go off and look for a nice picture anyway.

Yeah, pretty much start wherever. You can see from the post dates that we haven't had any activity in a while, but I should be able to get a couple of the oldies that I know back in short order, and might even send some emails out to people I'm not currently in contact with...

Oh, and you can ignore the "kar pel flew" thread in Space and, well, anything that -+infiniteXlegacy+- posts. Wink

Heh, I know that tale. I'm sort of a refugee from a historical forum which got a bit too big. They limited people to only reading the place they were at in-game and it pretty much killed the RP. Now they have lots of in-game battles but no stories, and I like the stories. Smile

I shall think about what to write. Hopefully you old-timers will be interested enough to return...
