Daireem Histories: Perrenor before the fall

"Perrenor. What a God forsaken planet," Chuck said from the back seat of the cockpit. Marion rolled her eyes as she took the freighter into the lower atmosphere, to dock at the Sansa Arna spaceport. Chuck said the same thing about almost every planet that they had the fortune of stopping at. The only times he didn't say anything is when it was his home planet, or Ellix. Both of which happened to be war torn, God forsaken planets. The irony was never lost on Marion.
"Shuttle Archea, this is Sansa Arna spaceport. You are cleared for docking bay 93. Proceed with caution, the port is crowded today." A voice over the com system said. Marion nodded her head, knowingly. She'd heard the same exact words spoken every time she'd ever stopped at this particular space port. The only times she ever came here were on market days, which were always busy; much like everyone else.
"You'd think they'd think of something new to say," Chuck said from behind her. Marion smiled, having thought something similar.
Market day on Perrenor was a monthly occurrence. The planet was strange in that it limited the amount of outside goods allowed into the planet. The only day that new products could come onto the planet legally, was market day. It was a very odd system, but it made for a bountiful haul. Instead of only selling ten items at a normal market, every ship that arrived for the occasion could sell every ware packed into their ship. Because the inflow of items was so scarce, when it was available, the people of Perrenor tended to go a little overboard.
Marion set the shuttle down in the bay, and felt the hydraulic clamps lock onto the hull. She climbed out of her seat and stretched. It had been a long ten hour flight from Vansid. Even with the use of an FTL drive, the distance between planets was often times unbearable. There were times that they'd spend weeks traveling from one system to another. Marion was glad she had a good crew. The thought of having to spend that long with people that didn't get along, or that she didn't like was even more unbearable than the travel times.
She'd gotten lucky finding her crew. Chuck had been with her the longest. Although he was right on that edge of getting on her nerves, and she would occasionally have to break up a fight between him and one of the others, he was worth the trouble. Whenever they had their differences, she could send him to his bunk to cool down, and he'd do it without fail. They had an understanding. He was tough as nails and a veteran of a few wars, and always had her back in a fight.
Andrew had come on just after Chuck, with two other crew members that didn't make the cut. Andrew was calm and collected, and usually kept to himself. Most of the time, he worked in the engine room, making repairs and calibrations. He even had a cot down there, even though he had a bunk with everyone else. Marion didn't mind. She knew he preferred the solitude of steel and oil.
Agnot was one of the more recent additions. She'd met him about a year ago on a backwater planet. He was looking to score a ride of the rock. He'd been born there, and had been itching to get away since he was a young boy. He'd made a deal to work the ship for a couple years in trade for a cut of the profits and a new life. Marion would be sad to see him go, once his time was up.
