Heading Home Again

Alex slept a few hours after they jumped to hyperspace, and awoke a little groggy, but feeling better after the events that had taken place just a few hours before. He exited his room and peered in on Nate, who was sleeping well. He was recovering nicely, and should be rid of any limp by the end of the week. He walked to the kitchen, and was surprised no one was there. He got a beer from the fridge, peered in the lounge and was astonished that no one was there either. 'Alright, they better be in the cock-pit or I'm gonna start thinking we had a Reaper in the cargo hold, and it decided to get revenge while I was sleeping...' Alex thought, amused at the stupid thought, then hoping that he wouldn't have to deal with such a crazy twist of fate so soon.

He walked to the cock-pit and found Melissa, Marcus, Scott, and the young girl there. He let out a sigh of relief, which Marcus caught, "What's wrong boss?" "Uh, nothing.." Alex said, walking closer and leaning against the wall. He popped the top of his beer and said, "So, what's up people?" Mel piped up and said, "We've been playing a game with Scott and Jen, who by the way is the new girl," Mel pointed to Jen and she waved, "We're making Scott guess why we're going back to Perranor. He's said just about everything besides finding a princess, and our actual reason for going." Scott jumped up and with mock frustration said, "I just wanna knooow!" He dropped to his knees with a great thematic element, and Marcus ended it with a perfect line, "Sorry kid, but you can't handle the truth!" Alex just laughed, amazed at how funny yet stupid his friends could be sometimes. "So," Scott said, "Why ARE we going back to Perranor?" Alex smiled and said, "To spread a dead man's ashes." Scott just looked for a second, then just said, "Oh, ok." They all talked for a little while, just shooting the breeze with eachother.

After a while, Marcus and Mel went off to eat lunch, leaving Scott, Jen and Alex chatting in the cock-pit. "So Jen," Alex said, "I know you left with us from Perranor to find a better life, so I'm sure you're not thrilled to be going back. I wouldn't take us back there if it wasn't important. But, once we finish our business, is there anywhere you'd like us to take you?" Jen looked at the floor a minute, and just said, "No, I don't have a destination in mind Captain Williams. If you wouldn't mind, might I fly with you and yours for a while? Perhaps in your travels, I will find a place I might part ways with you. Again, I'll gladly do whatever you need me to while I stay here." Alex smiled and said, "That'd be fine Jen. And if you're going to be here for a while, just call me Alex. Formalities are not a requirement on this ship." Jen smiled and said, "Thank you, Alex." Alex smiled, and they all continued chatting with one another...

RE: Heading Home Again

Alex, Scott and Jen were all chatting in the cock-pit. Alex and Scott were deliberating whether Scott was actually strong enough to beat Alex in an arm wrestle, and Alex was about to prove to him that he was not, when Nate limped into the cock-pit. "What's up gimpy?" Alex asked, and Nate responded by giving him the finger. "I had a question; could we make a stop before we get to Perranor?" Nate asked, leaning with his hand against the wall. "Probably, where you wanna go?" Alex asked, curious as to where, and why, Nate would suddenly ask them to change course. "Fierra Mesa. I went to a resort there a few years ago, had a great casino, entertainment, EVERYTHING. I was thinking maybe we could use some of our money and take a day or two for vacation?" Alex pondered it a bit, then said, "We'll have a vote, which I'm sure you'll win by a landslide. You know, cause you've paid these jerks off or something..." Nate grinned and Alex called Marcus and Mel to the cock-pit.

When everyone was there, Alex quickly stated, "Nate wants us to stop at Fierra Mesa. Why? A resort, with an apparentally nice casino and wonderful entertainments of all kinds. All in favor say 'I'." And then everyone, including Alex, said "I!". "Now," Alex started, "All not in favor, say 'I'." A dead silence for a few seconds. "Alright, it's settled. Party on Fierra Mesa!" Nate grinned a broad grin full of white teeth, and the others let out a cheer. It had been a while since they'd been able to have the money for a vacation, so this was a welcome surprise to the crew. Alex wasn't too bothered by it either, considering he had a love for Black Jack, Poker and afternoons by the pool, with waiters bringing you cold drinks and beautiful women all around.

Yes, Fierra Mesa seemed a good idea for a distraction. Alex promptly changed course for the planet, and the ship's distance calculator put them at only four hours and thirty-seven minutes away from the planet...

RE: Heading Home Again

Outside a little town on Fierra Mesa, down an abandoned dirt road, Valerie awakens in the back seat of her car.

For nearly thirty minutes upon awakening, she ponders her way of life and wonders when she last washed this coat. Probably a while. She wads it up and tosses it into the passenger seat before climbing into the driver's seat and cranking the engine. She sits back and takes a breath, turning up the heat. Cold morning.

Finally, she shifts into gear and pulls onto a paved road, headed into town. Forty miles away is a casino.

What's so special about this casino? Wasn't Valerie headed for Perrenor? Well, she was, but didn't exactly want to make the trip aboard her cramped Thunderbird, and there were no cargo ships bound for Perrenor any time soon.

So, might as well check local bounties, right? And what did she find? One of Byte Inc.'s many workers skipped town--or rather, skipped world. Kind of a wonder he made it this far, with Byte's infamous security measures. Regardless, they knew his name and got a tip that he's working in--that's right--a casino resort on Fierra Mesa. Needless to say, they put a bounty out on local networks. Even got a picture of the guy. Should be easy money.

She hits the EXHAUST lever and takes off down the empty stretch of highway in her 1970 Pontiac GTO.

RE: Heading Home Again

Alex spent a little time digging through his trunk of clothes, picking out a few outfits that he'd take off ship with him, along with a pair of swim shorts. He changed into a pair of black slacks, a black button up shirt that he left untucked, with the collar button left undone, and put on his best pair of shoes. He looked over on the other side of the crew quarters and saw Marcus doing the same. Marcus had changed into a pair of loose fitting jeans, put on a large white tee and his silver necklace. Everyone loved dressing up once in a while, and what better place to show off fly threads than in a casino full of beautiful people, letting it all ride and having a good time?

Alex and Marcus took turns in the bathroom, Alex trimming himself up with his razor, Marcus using one of his products to style his hair. They went back through the crew quarters, whistling at Melissa to tease her due to the fact she was standing there in her bra, trying to decide which shirt to wear. She promptly gave them the finger and continued deciding, and Alex and Marcus went to the cock-pit. They chilled there for a while, and one by one the others came in, including Jen, dressed in their nice clothes, and each of them carrying an overnight bag of some kind full of other clothes and things they were taking planet side.

When they were near Fierra Mesa, Alex hailed the planet and was greeted by a pleasant sounding woman. She asked if his trip was business or pleasure, which he responded that it was indeed a vacation, and asked if she could direct him to the resort that Nate described to him. "Oh yes, you're talking about Mesa Falls Resort and Casino. I'll upload the coordinates to you now, and give them a call and let them know you're coming!" "Thank you ma'am." Alex said, and shut off the comm. He piloted them to the designated area, and touched the ship down on the tarmac.

By the time they got out of the ship, a short and friendly man was but a few steps away from their ship. "Hello! And welcome to Mesa Falls! My name is Gunther, and might I take anyone's bags?" They all replied no, and Gunther smiled. "Alright then, well if you'll all just follow me I'll escort you to the lobby, where you can speak with one of our CSR's. They can arrange hotel rooms and direct you to our many entertainments." They all followed Gunther, as he continued to list off the different things they had, which ranged from the fabulous and fun casino, to boxing matches, to horse races, and even paint ball matches they could partake in or bet on.

After a few minutes of walking, they came up to the front doors of the main building, which housed the casino, hotel, pool and spa, and the arena where the boxing took place. "Well I bid you farewell, but I hope you have a wonderful stay!" Gunther dipped his head a bit with a smile, and walked off to take care of his other duties. Alex walked up to the counter where a Customer Service Rep greeted him, and asked if they'd like to get a hotel room or rooms. "Yes," Alex said, "We'll need a place to sleep. What kind of deals do you have for us? We're only staying one night, just so you know." The CSR smiled and said, "Well, with a group as large as yours, you'll need several beds correct? Are there any couples here?" Alex looked at them all and said, "No, but we're all very good friends. We can share queen or king beds if need be." The CSR smiled again and said, "Well, I can cut you a deal. We have a LOVELY suite on the 23rd floor, which normally would be in use by now but the guest left several days early. Tonight was the last night on his reservation. I can give you guys that suite, which actually has two seperate bedrooms, which each have two queen beds, and one has a single bed in it also. The suite also has an in-room hot tub that seats up to six, a mini bar which will be free for you, since it's paid for. It also has a stocked kitchen, and a living room with a tv and pool table!" Alex and the others nearly dropped at the description, but then Alex sobered himself, and asked the question he was sure would send the whole idea out the window. "How much will it be?" He asked, getting ready to cringe. The CSR smiled, and said, "I'll only charge you Two hundred and fifty Tape! That way you can save more money to enjoy yourselves with!" Alex, now completely ecstatic, nearly hopped the counter and kissed the woman. "We'll take it!" Alex proclaimed, and the woman proceeded to book them for the night. 'This'll be a wonderful time indeed!' Alex thought to himself, grinning at his companions who were all equally ecstatic...
