RE: The Reckoning

From under the box, Szyren replies to this theory.

Szyren: Listen, Castle.  I'm not that heavy.  You could just carry me.  I'm not gonna scuttle about in a box until I happen to run into you, your ship, or a guard.  I'll get in the box, you can carry it.  Or... stick it on a wheely-thing and bring it over that way.

Her tone has become very patronizing, and it seems very silly coming from a box, because, of course, she hasn't taken it off her head.

Szyren: Does that sound alright to you?  Or do you not want vast pirate treasure?

RE: The Reckoning

Neil crosses his arms and pouts. Going over everything in his head, he wags a finger a moment later.

Neil: Wheely-thing. Right.

He grabs the box off of her head and heads off to the space port, no more than a block away.

When he arrives, he finds a nice little wheely-thing—a flat cart—and puts the cardboard box on it. He turns and almost tries to lift Szyren so he can place her manually into the box, but realizes that's not really working out for him.

Neil: Uh, just get in.

RE: The Reckoning

Szyren complies and fits nicely into the box with room to spare.  She sucks in a large gulp of air and hopes that she doesn't suddenly develope claustrophobia, though she's never experienced it before.  More likely, she'll start laughing again and blow her cover.  She holds her breath as Neil shuts the top of the box and continues to hold it as she feels the wheels turning underneath her and hears them squeaking every so often, probably as Neil turns, though she can't tell for sure.

She's in a box, afterall.

She hopes the whole ordeal goes down without a hitch.

When the cart stops she lets out a heavy sigh and realizes that she managed to hold her breath that whole time, though how long it was she doesn't remember.  Time seems to have stopped inside the box.

She ponders this wholly philosophical viewpoint for a while and wonders if it is okay to stand up yet.

RE: The Reckoning

Luckily, on Perrenor nobody seems to really care what you're taking with you when you leave.

Plus the "THE ORANGE" label on the box. They probably think it just has oranges.

As Neil pushes the cart through the halls, on his way to docking bay 94, he notices a distinct lack of any sort of sound or movement from the box.

Do you need to poke air holes in the cardboard when you're keeping people?

He doesn't think so. Luckily he's arrived at his ship, so he opens the box's flap and whispers.

Neil: Come on let's go.

He trots over to his beat-up old big honking piece of steel of a ship. Looking at it, there's no reason for it to fly. He digs around in his pocket for a key, sticks it into the keyhole, and turns it.

The loading ramp falls open unimpeded, slamming loudly into the floor. He walks up it and flips the light switch, which happens to be sitting in a blue electrical box on the outside of the wall. The wiring runs across the surface of the wall up into the ceiling.

The bed, which takes up a large amount of the small inside of the ship, is unmade and the sheets are mostly on the floor instead. On the abnormally new-looking nightstand sits three small plants.

Neil points at the ramp.

Neil: I really need to get some new seals. Leaks oxygen all the time.

He heads to the minifridge, grabs a soda, and disappears into the cockpit.

RE: The Reckoning

Szyren darts up and into the ship without taking a moment to check her surroundings.  She just really doesn't want to get caught here.  She hasn't enjoyed her stay on Perrenor all that much, except for the tubes, and she doubts she'll be allowed to play in them much if she's incarcerated.

Inside the ship she takes that initial moment to marvel, and finds herself not impressed.  The comment about leaking oxygen leaves her with a sick feeling in the pit of her stomach.

Szyren: Well, you seem to value your own life to a moderate degree, so I guess it can't be that bad if you'll go out to space in it.

She follows him into the cockpit and watches everything he does over his shoulder, though she doesn't offer any sort of input or help.

After a while, she clears her throat.

Szyren: Do you wanna know where we're going?

RE: The Reckoning

Neil jumps when Szyren reminds him of her presence.

Neil: It would help, probably, yeah.

He continues getting everything turned on.

Neil: By the way, that oxygen leak is usually only when I forgot to close the ramp.

...

Neil: Like I did just now.

He gets up, marches into the back, lifts the ramp with the help of the convenient winch, since it doesn't seem to be at all automated, and returns to the cockpit.

Neil: Okay, where to?

RE: The Reckoning

Szyren sits in the pilot's chair and rests her elbows on the console, threading her fingers together and setting her chin on top of the temple they create.

As nonchalantly as possible, she replies.

Szyren: Just head over to the Reia Bonu system and float around there for a bit.  Ahh-- when you get to Wist, we're there!

Szyren has never been ot the Reia Bonu system, and there is a very good reason for that.  It never struck her as being vital to go.  The only thing she knows of that exists in that system is a boring planet that no one can get into unless they've got all kinds of special papers, and that planet's moon.  That planet's moon happens to be home to a ferocious breed of creature that she'd rather not get tangled up with.

And that's exactly where the pirate told her to go.

And it is highly unsettling.

But she figures, if she plays it off as being cool, Neil won't have a problem with it either.

RE: The Reckoning

Neil: Wist, huh? Never been there.

He wads up his coat and throws it onto the bed, then removes his very large blaster shoulder slings and tosses them haphazardly on top of the coat. He returns to the cockpit area.

He stands and looks expectantly at Szyren, who is in his seat.

Neil: If you really want to fly...

He lets it hang.

RE: The Reckoning

Szyren: If you really want to wind up crash landing on a worm infested moon with no hope of escape...

She removes herself from the seat and twirls out of the cockpit.

She falls into the bed and doesn't pause to wonder if it's sanitary before making herself comfortable, crossing heels over each other and pillowing her arms under her head.  She begins to think, which is a very dangerous thing for her.

It is possible that Neil has never heard of Wist and the Ripovv.  It's not a widely circulated story, if you don't get out of your house much, and you've never seen the news.  But he's a mercenary, so he probably has to leave his house on occasion.

Then again, he is a mercenary, and he may just not be scared of man eating worms like the average person should be.  This is excusable, although a little moronic.

She should be glad that he's okay with the idea of going to Wist.  It furthers her cause and prevents her from having to do it alone.  And yet, there is that tiny little part of her that wishes he would at least have mentioned some kind of aprehension about it.

Man eating worms is not a good way to go.

RE: The Reckoning

Neil sits down and finishes starting up the ship. It takes a matter of minutes to get cleared to leave and exit the atmosphere.

Something dawns on Neil.

Neil: ... Wait a second.

He opens up the navicomputer and checks the current position of planet Wist. It did in fact give an up-to-date position.

It also gave a public advisory notification from the Hyperspace Safety Commission of Reia Bonu.

"UNSAFE DESTINATION - Please see public safety release"

The ship automatically jumps into hyperspace, losing the connection.

Neil: ... What.

He promptly stands up and steps purposefully over to Szyren's current location.

Neil: ... Do you know anything about Wist?
